John wins first prize in 2018 Advancement to Candidacy competition

John Calise recently won the top prize in the 2018 Advancement to Candidacy competition, earning the Council of Academic Chairs Scholarship, at the 43rd annual UF College of Medicine Medical Guild research competition. The Advancement to Candidacy Award is aimed at recognizing outstanding students in their mid-tenure after they have passed their qualifying examination in their third year of study. A committee composed of faculty members from each concentration evaluates the concentration nominees and chooses the top three finalists, who receive monetary awards. The Advancement to Candidacy Award recognizes both academic and research excellence, and is based on: student transcripts; publications; fellowships, scholarships, and other awards; research presentations at regional, national, and international meetings; and a letter of recommendation from the student’s dissertation mentor.
